Last week, I gave a two-day course on paper technology in Arab lands to the conservation team of the Franciscan Archives in Malta. The course has been tailored to their needs and level. It included theoretical lectures on paper making and history of Western Islamic lands (Levant, Egypt, Maghreb, Al Andalus and Turkey). The course was complemented by visits and a practical session in the Special Collections of the Leiden University Library. I thank Karin Scheper (LUL), Godelieva van der Randen (Rijksmuseum van Oudheden) and Wendy Boham (Museum Volkenkunde) for their kind participation.
