Last week I visited the exhibition Ragamala at the Rietberg Museum in Zurich. The exhibit features 50 stunning pieces, primarily from Rajasthan, offering visitors a glimpse into how artists blended poetry and music to create exceptional paintings that capture deep emotions and moods. The artworks are paired with verses of poetry, music, and bespoke perfumes, specially crafted for the show, enabling the audience to fully immerse themselves in the world of Ragamala painting. The harmonious fusion of sound and imagery creates a truly unique and sensory experience.
Two artists, Manish Soni and Murad Khan Mumtaz, have produced several works of art illustrating that Ragamala painting is still a living tradition.
